The Safety of Objects
These sculptural boxes are a series of Takuhon prints created for the Paper After All exhibition, a contemporary view of assemblage at the Royal Cambrian Academy in 2022, touring to The Paper Gallery and The Saul Hay gallery in Manchester later in the year.
I felt that Takuhon, an ancient Japanese technique for creating a 3D image of an object, gave a new perspective to assemblage. Takuhon captures the “otherness” of print and creates a new way of seeing everyday objects. It also speaks of fragility and the deceptive safety of objects.
